Tom Vance has a passion – to create uniquely drinkable craft brews with ingredients sourced entirely from New York producers. Self-described as “Owner-Brewer-Drinker” of Hop Barn Brewing, his current offering of 12 ‘delectables’ (including a Sour, Two Stouts, a Kolsch, an IPA, a Belgian Strong, a Pilsner, a Red Ale and a Cider) are on tap at 94 Maple Avenue, Greenville, NY beginning at 4PM on Fridays & Saturdays.
The Hop Barn is the culmination of an adult life-long love of the taste of beer. Indeed, as Tom states in the OUR STORY section of his website: “After 24 years of trying every different kind of beer I could find, I began brewing my own beer. I decided it was time to share all my knowledge with the world.”
Great beer is best enjoyed with friends in comfortable surroundings, and the Vances have created a great place to meet up with a downstairs tap room with views of the brew-vats, and an inviting upstairs featuring hand-crafted picnic-style tables, a horse-hair dart board, and every board and card game imaginable!
Pencils compliment every table, and visitors are invited to scribe their comments, drawings, and memories on the pine table-tops (which are burned into the surface by Tom’s daughter each week). They even host monthly live bluegrass sessions (with members & friends of Medusa Moonshine) at no cover!
All Hop Barn Brews are created using locally sourced ingredients, and Tom is working with the Greene County craft brewing community and members of the Catskills Beverage Trail to create an on-line resource for local farmers interested in growing the hops, barley and other grains in-demand by local brewers.
