Hartland on Hudson: Revitalizing a Main Street Storefront in Leeds, NY

September 20, 2016

1-408150862.jpgNic Cameron and Emily Johnson had a vision when they bought the historic brick building at 1130 Main Street, in Leeds: Create a Brooklyn Coffee Experience in Greene County, feature Emily’s Hartland Brooklyn stationary and curated gifts in the storefront, and build out a live-in production space for Emily’s designs.

2-26285280.jpgPrior to this venture, Nic worked as an audio engineer in the New York metropolitan area across all aspects of live, studio, and post-production.  Emily is a gifted designer who built her business through an extensive social media following and on-line sales, so the next step in realizing their vision came in the form of a sketch.

Then came the real work.  The entire storefront area was beautifully renovated, new walls and the coffee bar framed out and put up, and the interior brick and 1130 tile inlay dutifully restored.

3-12.jpgThe exterior received some extra attention with an eye on making the most of the elegant contrast between the legacy brick work and wooden ornamentation.

The pride of Nic’s barista gear is his La Marzocco Espresso Machine where he masterfully produces Cappuccinos, Americanos, and Lattes as well.

4-8.jpgHartland on Hudson is a terrific example of how location, affordability, and small town lifestyle combine to foster the creative economy in Greene County, NY.  Emily & Nic found an innovative way to combine what they do, and do it in a place they love.
